What is a Cub Scout Pack?

A Cub Scout Pack is a group of Cub Scouts, adult leaders and parents who belong to the same Cub Scout unit.   A Cub Scout Pack generally draws its members from a local elementary school, church or community organization that is associated with the pack’s Chartered Organization and Community.

Any boy in St. Mary's County who meets the Cub Scout Requirements is welcome to join Pack 420.  The majority of our boys come from Leonardtown Elementary, Loveville-Banneker Elementary and Father Andrew White Schools.

What is a Chartered Organization?

A Chartered Organization is the sponsoring organization for a Cub Scout Pack.  It is usually a church, PTA, homeowner’s association, or other community group.

The Chartered Organization is responsible for selecting the leadership of the Pack and to provide a meeting place.  They are not required, but can also provide financial support for the Pack.  The Chartered Organization also appoints a Representative to the Pack’s Committee.  This person may or may not be a leader in the Pack.

Each year, the Pack must renew its Charter with the local council. The Chartered Organization must approve the rechartering application in order for the Charter to be renewed.
